Physician | Department of Radiation Oncology | James J. Peters VAMC
As a radiation oncologist, I’m responsible for determining the role of radiation therapy in a patient’s cancer treatment plan, planning the radiation treatment, evaluating the patient for the response to the treatment, and continuing to follow-up with the patient for side effect management and cancer surveillance.
At the first visit, also known as a consultation, I review all of the patient’s records, pathology reports, laboratory results and imaging and perform a physical examination. At the conclusion of the exam, I discuss my recommendations for radiation treatment with the patient and family. Several appointments are made for the patient so that a plan for the radiation treatment can be developed.
Once treatment starts, I make sure that every treatment is accurately given, monitor the patient’s progress and adjust treatment as necessary, and treat any side effects of radiation therapy

What exactly is an entrepreneur? You might have a picture in your head of what one looks like, but they are hard to define. That’s because every entrepreneur is unique.
They do have two major things in common though: their actions and aims. They see an opportunity to start a company. They decide to pursue this idea, and in doing so they are taking a risk. They want to change the world in some way, whether it’s big or small.
If you are wondering if you could be an entrepreneur, here are some personality traits that successful ones share:
• Passionate: Are there certain interests that you’re passionate about? Maybe you have been thinking about turning your hobby into a career, or you want to make a difference in your community.
• Motivated: Perhaps you’ve always been a self-starter who is motivated to try something new. You might have leadership qualities that others are drawn to, or feel confident that you could guide a team effectively.
• Independent: Many entrepreneurs crave more freedom in their lives. They might be tired of working a 9-to-5 desk job, or they’re looking to make their own schedule.
• Creative: Do you enjoy problem-solving and coming up with new solutions? Or you might be a bit of a daydreamer who’s always thinking about what the future holds.
There are a variety of jobs in healthcare and an increasing need for people to fill these positions. Some are clinical jobs, such as doctors , nurses and surgeons.
Others are technical jobs, such as phlebotomist and radiologists. A number of positions are healthcare support occupations, which involve helping other clinicians. These include home health aides, occupational therapy assistants, and physical therapy aides.
there are a number of administrative jobs. These range from upper-level administrative jobs, like a medical director, to jobs like hospital administrative assistants. Without planning and administrative input, it would be difficult for doctors and other medical professionals to deliver their services. Some people in administrative roles are responsible for scheduling appointments, while others may be in charge of running an office, nursing home, or hospital.
Clinical roles include people who have attended medical or nursing school.
Do not underestimate the importance of people in support roles – they’re essential to proving medical services. Also playing a key role are the technicians who take blood, do sonograms and perform other medical tasks.
